The "extrinsic facts" test is a guideline to establish whether an insurer owes a duty of defense to its insured.

Ex gratia payment is Latin for "by favor." It is a voluntary payment made by the insurer in response to a loss for which it is not technically liable under the terms of its policy.

Ex parte hearings are hearings where due to extenuating circumstances, one party seeks immediate relief from the court. Ex parte hearings are for the benefit of one party only. "Ex parte" is a latin term that means "from the party."
