Bill McIntyre Receives Words of Wisdom Award at the  
2024 IRMI Construction Risk Conference  

San Diego, CA, October 29, 2024—Bill McIntyre, executive chairman of International Risk Management Institute, Inc. (IRMI), was honored today with the presentation of the 2024 IRMI Words of Wisdom (WOW) Award at the IRMI Construction Risk Conference (CRC). The award recognizes outstanding speakers who have had a significant and sustained impact on the success of the Conference.  

Mr. McIntyre served as cochair of the 43 previous IRMI CRCs, and he announced he would be stepping down from that role last year. He presented educational sessions in at least half of those Conferences and spoke in some capacity at all of them. He consistently ranked in the top tier of speakers because his sessions always provided practical takeaways that could be implemented by anyone charged with managing or insuring construction risks. 

Since 1992, IRMI has recognized 30 risk and insurance professionals who have unselfishly shared their knowledge to make the construction industry safer and more secure. Their selection was largely based on the ratings from attendees, and in many of these years, Mr. McIntyre’s ratings have been higher than the award recipient’s ratings.   

“Bill is arguably the best speaker who’s ever stepped to the podium at CRC,” said IRMI CEO Jack Gibson, “and it is only fitting that he receives the recognition he deserves now that he has stepped down from his role at the Conference. It was quite an honor to surprise him with it.” 

Mr. McIntyre has been involved in commercial insurance and risk management for over 50 years and holds the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designations. He is chairman of the American Contractors Insurance Group and a shareholder in the American Risk Transfer Insurance Company, Ltd., a Bermuda-based captive reinsurance company. 

Mr. McIntyre has written numerous articles on insurance and risk management for several publications. He coauthored 101 Ways To Cut Your Business Insurance Costs without Sacrificing Protection; he is a technical adviser for IRMI’s online reference for contractors, Construction Risk Management; and he was coauthor of the original text.
