Press Release

Claims Operations Book Published by IRMI

Dallas, TX, August 3, 2010International Risk Management Institute, Inc. (IRMI), is pleased to announce the release of its newest book, Claims Operations: A Practical Guide. It is the first book of its kind to show how claims operations actually work, from single-adjuster firms to national third-party administrators. This 450-page book is the most comprehensive information source for how the claims process is handled, controlled, and managed and its interrelationship with other functional departments.

Claims Operations: A Practical Guide is full of practical tools, including claim investigation statement guides on auto, general liability (premises, construction, sidewalk or walkway, product liability, animal bite, and swimming pool claims), and workers compensation accidents. Then it delves deeper, offering in-depth claims handling guidelines for auto physical damage, liability, and PIP/no-fault; first-party property and inland marine; cargo; general liability; professional and management liability; public entity; and workers compensation insurance.

"When Mike Murdock, a 30-year veteran claims executive, came to us with an idea to write a practical guide for both insurance and risk management professionals to use in setting up, managing, and evaluating claims operations, we jumped at the opportunity to add this book to the IRMI risk and insurance library," said IRMI president Jack P. Gibson, CPCU, CRIS, ARM. "There is literally something in this book for everyone, whether you are a risk manager trying to evaluate a TPA, an agent trying to set up an in-house claims advisory service, an experienced P&C claims executive, or a newcomer to the claims side of the business."

Claims Operations: A Practical Guide addresses both fundamental claims handling issues and claims operations. Non-claims professionals will gain a better understanding of how to improve profitability through effective technical claims handling and claims management (including proper caseloads), and learn to recognize when and why a claims operation or TPA is not meeting industry quality standards.

Claims Operations: A Practical Guide was written by Michael T. Murdock, CPCU, ARM, ARe, ASLI, ACI, who has more than 30 years’ experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry, with emphasis on insurance operations, P&L responsibility, claims administration, sales, and marketing. This new book is now available in print format for $54 and, for IRMI Online access, $27 for individuals or $54 for small businesses. See more information about the book, or call 1–800–827–4242.
