IRMI Launches Online Curriculum for the Agribusiness and Farm Insurance Specialist (AFIS) Certification and Continuing Education Program

Dallas, TX, August 25, 2014International Risk Management Institute, Inc. (IRMI), and WebCE have launched an online curriculum for the Agribusiness and Farm Insurance Specialist (AFIS™) certification and continuing education program at AFIS.WebCE.com.

Launched in 1989, the AFIS certification is the industry’s only professional credential for those who serve the farm and agribusiness communities. Nearly 1,900 people have earned the AFIS certification, and another 1,400 are in the process of completing its requirements.

IRMI has enhanced the online AFIS program with video instruction from farm and agribusiness insurance experts, and streamlined the curriculum into five online courses:

  • AFIS 1—Farm Property
  • AFIS 2—Farm Liability
  • AFIS 3—Farm Auto, Workers Comp, Umbrella
  • AFIS 4—Special Farm Property Insurance Lines
Equipment Breakdown, Inland Marine, Crop, and Livestock Mortality
  • AFIS 5—Miscellaneous Farm Insurance Lines
Ag Pollution, Management Liability, and Crime

"Farming and agribusiness remain significant parts of the US economy," said Millie Workman, director of training and education at IRMI. "Managing the risks that arise from these operations requires specialized knowledge and expertise. Offering the AFIS certification program in an online format, in addition to classes at the Conferences, provides more opportunities for those involved in agribusiness risk management and insurance to access the information and resources to help manage those risks more effectively and gain recognition for their expertise and dedication to the industry."

Completing all five courses (each with a passing score) entitles farm and agribusiness insurance professionals to display and use the AFIS certification. Each AFIS course costs $99, plus $15 for CE credit if needed.

The AFIS certification and renewal can still be completed at the series of Emmett J Vaughan Agribusiness Conferences, designed for those who must understand, mitigate, or insure farm and agribusiness exposures. The remaining 2014 Conferences will be held in Richmond, Virginia, on September 8–9, and in Des Moines, Iowa, on October 6–7.
