IRMI Releases New Third Edition of Design-Build Risk and Insurance Resource

Dallas, TX, December 3, 2013International Risk Management Institute, Inc. (IRMI), has released the new third edition of Design-Build Risk and Insurance for the insurance and risk management community.

Design-Build Risk and Insurance explains how to avoid pitfalls in design-build construction through appropriate coverage and superior risk management. This resource covers a variety of topics, including introduction to design-build construction, risk identification, contractual risk transfer, case law in design-build claims, coverage for design-build risks in standard policies, architects and engineers errors and omissions insurance, contractors professional liability insurance, project-specific professional liability insurance, and surety in design-build.

"Design-build projects present a myriad of risks not found in traditional design-bid-build construction," said Ann Hickman, contributing author and editor of the book. "Contractors who act as design-builders must understand how this project delivery method alters their design liability and how to mitigate contractual risks, including performance guarantees. Likewise, owners procuring work under design-build contracts must also address a variety of issues, including professional licensing requirements and ownership of design documents. Failure to recognize and plan for these risks can impair the ability to achieve a successful project."

Design-Build Risk and Insurance is also used as the text for an online continuing education course within the Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS®) educational program. Completers of the CRIS course can receive insurance CE credit as well as CRIS reaccreditation credit.
