Tim East of The Walt Disney Company Receives 2021 Bill McIntyre Leadership Award

November 8, 2021—Dallas, TX—Tim East, executive director, corporate risk management for The Walt Disney Company, was honored today as the recipient of the 2021 Bill McIntyre Leadership Award, which recognizes visionary leaders who demonstrate a commitment to construction risk management through creativity, service, mentoring, and education.

Sponsored by Travelers, the award is presented annually by International Risk Management Institute, Inc. (IRMI), at the IRMI Construction Risk Conference and is named for IRMI Executive Chairman Bill McIntyre, who has inspired, trained, and educated thousands of risk professionals and is a passionate advocate of construction risk management and safety.

For more than 30 years, Mr. East has provided vision and guidance to Disney as it has expanded in California, Florida, Japan, and France, as well as greenfield developments in New York City, India, Hong Kong, and Shanghai. His guidance has ensured that construction risk exposures and the interfaces among early works, construction, fit-out works, the defect liability period, and operations are treated effectively and as consistently as possible regardless of time zone.

He served as chair of the California Coalition on Worker’s Compensation from 2000 to 2014. He currently leads the board and oversees the management of the California Self-Insurers’ Security Fund, a 501(c)(6) mutual benefit corporation of over 350 member companies. The Security Fund’s purpose is to ensure that injured workers receive payment of workers compensation benefits if a private self-insured employer defaults on its workers compensation benefit obligations.

Mr. East is an instructor for business ethics at The Master’s College and guest lectures at the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business Administration and at California State University College of Business and Economics.

His contributions have been recognized with awards, including the ARM Distinguished Graduate Award, the Christy Award from the Risk and Insurance Management Society, and Worker’s Compensation Professional of the Year.

The Bill McIntyre Leadership Award is open to professionals charged with managing construction risks for their employers with at least 10 years of experience in construction risk management at the time of nomination. Candidates should demonstrate passion, integrity, vision, and creativity in furthering construction risk management and have a heart for giving back to the industry by mentoring, encouraging, or teaching others.
