Mr. O'Connell has been practicing insurance and reinsurance law since 1982, honing his expertise over 25 years at Barlow Lyde & Gilbert. His primary focus is dispute resolution, handling major and complex disputes through litigation, arbitration, and mediation in England and other jurisdictions like the United States, France, Sweden, Switzerland, Jamaica, and Hong Kong.
He advises clients on all facets of reinsurance and complex risk transfer mechanisms, including alternative risk transfer and insurance-linked securities. Mr. O'Connell's dispute resolution experience enables him to assist clients with major reinsurance program wording and the creation of innovative products and risk solutions. He has also played a significant role in developing runoff solutions for the insurance and reinsurance industry.
