Douglas P. Snyder

Partner

Mr. Snyder coauthored "Commercial Real Estate Mortgages." He is a partner with the Los Angeles-based law firm of Cox, Castle & Nicholson LLP, and specializes in real estate transactions, with an emphasis on property acquisition, financing, and development. His practice has included extensive representation of lenders in the origination of construction and permanent loans and other financing structures, and the workout and restructuring of project financing during periods of market decline. In recent years, Mr. Snyder's practice has focused on assisting commercial developers in the complex transactions that are necessary to succeed in this challenging business. With the emergence of commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS), or "conduit" loans, as a major source of financing for real estate in recent years, he has become deeply involved in the process of structuring financing packages for large commercial properties and assisting developers with taking the full advantage of the structured finance options available in the marketplace. Mr. Snyder was primarily responsible for one of the nation's largest "defeasance" transactions regarding a mortgage loan securitized in a CMBS pool, and has unique experience in this field. Mr. Snyder is a regular contributor to real estate industry publications regarding current issues in real estate and their legal implications, and speaks on topics of current interest in real estate to both legal and business audiences. He received his B.A. in 1976 and his M.B.A. and J.D. degrees in 1981 from the University of California at Los Angeles.
