Matt Bettencourt

Mr. Bettencourt is a Reserve helicopter pilot and contract instructor pilot for the US Navy. He has 13-plus years of aviation experience, including 2,000 hours piloting manned aircraft and 2,000 hours operating UASs. Mr. Bettencourt is currently the Navy's lead contract instructor pilot for the MQ-8 Fire Scout, the Navy's first rotary-wing UAS. He also instructs in the Navy's MH-60S multimission helicopter. He has helped train over 900 students in both the MH-60S and MQ-8. He holds his commercial pilot certificate with single-engine airplane, rotorcraft, instrument, and sUAS ratings. He is a proud graduate of the US Naval Academy with a bachelor of science in systems engineering with a focus in robotics and computers. When not flying or instructing, he and his wife run a nonprofit adaptive ice hockey program they founded in San Diego.
