Robert A. Bregman, CPCU, RPLU, MLIS
Senior Research Analyst (Retired)
Before his retirement from IRMI in 2019, Mr. Bregman was the principal author and editor of Professional Liability Insurance, a reference that analyzes medical and nonmedical, directors and officers (D&O), errors and omissions, and employment practices liability (EPL) exposures and coverages.
He authored IRMI’s two-part, seven-course Management Liability Insurance Specialist (MLIS) certification program, which deals with D&O, EPL, and fiduciary liability insurance exposures and coverages.
Mr. Bregman coedited Employment Practices Liability Consultant (EPLiC), a quarterly journal that deals with the coverage, loss control, underwriting, and legal aspects of EPL. He was also the editor of D&O MAPS, an online publication containing analyses of nearly 300 D&O liability insurance policy forms, and contributed to the Risk Financing and Commercial Property Insurance references.
Mr. Bregman is a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and holds the Management MLIS certification. In addition, he is a Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RPLU) and a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and holds the Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Associate in Claims (AIC), Associate in Underwriting (AU), and Associate in Loss Control Management (ALCM) designations.
Prior to joining IRMI in 1989, Mr. Bregman, who began his insurance career in 1976, was a liability claims adjuster, an insurance company underwriter, an assistant risk manager at two Fortune 500 companies, and a risk management consultant at a Big Four accounting firm.
He received a bachelor of arts degree in history from Boston University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and a master of business administration degree from Northwestern University's J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
