Sonja Guenther

Ms. Guenther has contributed to Risk Financing, IRMI Workers Comp, and Construction Risk Management. She has worked more than 40 years in the insurance industry. Prior to joining IMA Financial Group as a vice president and workers compensation specialist, she served for 20 years as a workers compensation specialist for Willis of Colorado. She was also an analyst for the National Council on Compensation Insurance and worked in both a marketing and an underwriting capacity for CIGNA Insurance Company for more than 15 years.

A nationally renowned specialist in workers compensation, Ms. Guenther has vast experience in facilitating workshops and seminars for both local and international audiences. She is a published author and has written numerous articles on workers compensation topics and testified on many occasions before Colorado legislators and the insurance commissioner.

Ms. Guenther holds a cum laude bachelor of arts degree in criminal justice from Regis University in Denver, along with a cum laude master of science degree in the psychology of communication and a certificate in conflict resolution from the same institution. She maintains four professional designations: Associate in Loss Control Management (ALCM), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), and Certified Risk Manager (CRM). Ms. Guenther is an advisory member to the board of the Workers' Compensation Coalition, a past president of the Colorado Chapter of Professionals in Workers' Compensation, and a previous appointed member of the Colorado Governor's Workers' Compensation Task Force.

Ms. Guenther was the 2012 recipient the IRMI Words of Wisdom (WOW) Award, presented at the 32nd IRMI Construction Risk Conference. She has also received the Chairman's Silver and Chairman's Gold awards from Willis North America, as well as a Governor's Liaison award.
