reportable quantity (RQ)

Reportable quantity (RQ) is the quantity of a hazardous substance that triggers reports under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA).

If a substance exceeds its RQ, the release must be reported to the National Response Center, the State Emergency Response Commission (SERC), and community emergency coordinators for areas likely to be affected.
